Generic Prasugrel (Effient)
Prasugrel (Effient) is commonly used to lower the risk of having a heart attack or other serious problem with your heart or blood vessels in any condition called acute coronary syndrome (ACS), which includes a variety of conditions related to decreased blood flow to the heart. You have a stent, which is a small mesh tube that is inserted into a blood vessel to help keep it open. Prasugrel prevents platelets in your blood from sticking together. This helps prevent the formation of blood clots that can block the flow of blood to your heart and increase your risk of heart attack and stroke.
Prasugrel Information :
Uses :
The Prasugrel tablet is a member of the class of medications known as blood thinners or antiplatelets. It keeps your blood moving freely throughout your body and helps stop dangerous blood clots from forming. For those with heart disease, this reduces the risk of another heart attack or stroke.
Prasugrel tablets are used to treat patients who have had heart stenting and have experienced a recent heart attack or severe chest pain connected to the heart (unstable angina). It aids in preventing major heart-related issues such as a recurrent heart attack, stroke, or blood clots in stents.
Aspirin, another antiplatelet medication, may be taken in addition to this medication. It should be taken consistently at the same time every day and can be taken with or without food. Even if you feel better, you should continue taking this medication. This medication may make you more susceptible to another heart attack or stroke if you stop taking it.
Precautions & Warnings :
Prasugrel should not be taken if you have ever experienced a transient ischemic attack (stroke), cerebral hemorrhage, or stroke. Prasugrel can cause serious bleeding issues, therefore if you weigh less than 60 kg, are 75 years of age or older, or have just had surgery or a serious accident, consult your doctor before taking it.
